Devraha Baba was a highly revered Indian saint who lived till the year 1990. In India, whenever a saint dies, they never say that he died but they rather say that he left his body. So Devraha Baba left his body in 1990.
Nobody knows where he came from or what his origins were and neither did the people know his age. Some said he was 300 years old, some said he was 500 years old and others said he was more than thousand years old.
When asked about his age or birth he said he didn’t have any parents but rather was born in the river Yamuna by the ashirwad or blessings of Bhagwan Sri Krishna and was born in Dwapar Yuga; that is, he was more than 5,000 years old.
And if you were to ask me I wouldn’t doubt a single word said by Devraha Baba.
Devraha Baba came to be known in British India in the state of Bihar when a village was attacked by wild bears terrifying it’s inhabitants. Devraha Baba spoke to bears (Yes, he could speak to animals), pacified them and told them not to harm humans again.
He had his ashram in Doeria district of eastern Uttar Pradesh, where he got his name Deoria or Devraha Baba.
Once a zamindar or a rich landlord visited him and told him he has piles and experiences a lot of pain while answering nature’s call. Baba meditated for some time and then asked him have you ever taken anything from anyone that is not yours?
To which the zamindar answered that he hadn’t. Then Baba told him to think more deeply. He still couldn’t remember anything. Then Baba told him whether he has given the rightful share of property to the widowed wife of his elder brother who had died and who is now living in her brother’s house. He told he hadn’t.
Then Baba told him to give her her rightful share to which the zamindar replied that she will give that property to her brothers. To which baba replied, whatever she does with her share is her right you should give it to her.
After sometime the zamindar visited Baba again and told him that fifty percent of his pain is gone. Then Baba asked him whether he had given the agreed upon share to his sister-in-law, to which the zamindar said he has given only fifty percent. Baba told him he will get rid of the full pain when he gives the agreed upon share to his sister-in-law.
The zamindar then went to his home, called the brothers of his sister-in-law and gave her her rightful share in their presence. Soon he was relieved of his pain.
Some of his famous devotees were – King George, Hollywood Actress Elizabeth Taylor, Sultan of Brunei, Indian President Dr. Rajendra Prasad, three generations of Indian Prime Ministers of Nehru-Gandhi family: Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.
Devraha Baba used to say it is not possible to receive god’s grace without keeping purity in thoughts, mind and action and in life in general.
May the grace of Devraha Baba be with you. Jai Siyaram!
